On the 12th and 19th of March, Inclusion’s Health in Justice management team held two Development Days for colleagues working in prisons across England. This event provided an opportunity for staff from various regions, prisons, and communities to connect. The day featured a range of talks and presentations that celebrated Inclusion’s progress and achievements in the drug and alcohol sector.

Both development days held great opportunities for staff to network and connect, one member of staff said…

I have definitely gained some knowledge, which has prompted me to look further into these areas, post development day, and I gained new ideas from staff from other sites. It is great to feel appreciated and for our hard work to be recognised; I left the day with a smile on my face, feeling valued for the work I do.”

Another commented on the organisation of the day, claiming it was…

“A very well organised day; great presentations that were interactive. I found the day inspirational and empowering. I hope to see more of these!”.

The day’s agenda included:

  • Engaging discussions regarding the restructuring of the Health in Justice Management team.
  • Clarification of each team member’s roles and responsibilities.
  • Insights into NDTMS and the data that aids in ensuring continuity of care and managing caseloads.
  • Completion of effective care planning and risk assessments.
  • Focus on staff wellbeing and self-care, particularly emphasising compassion-focused therapy.
  • Celebrating the six staff members who successfully completed the Addictions Professionals Drug & Alcohol Accreditation programme, as well as the 31 who have begun their journey in the programme!
  • Introducing the PowerBI Outcomes Star tool to assist practitioners and service leads in tracking progress and positive outcomes in patient journeys, while also demonstrating the effectiveness of our interventions.

Overall, both development days have allowed for staff to gain a wider knowledge of Inclusion’s development within the drug and alcohol sector, encouraged connections and networking whilst recognising and appreciating the hard work our staff do.

  • “An incredible day for Inclusion staff to get together, reconnect with those we work with across the regions and refresh on important topics that allow us to do our roles whilst also being able to reflect and have a moment of self-care and be reminded of the importance of this and ways in which we can instil this within our practices”.
